Since its establishment in July 1962 as NASA's Launch Operations Center, the spaceport has served as the departure gate for every American manned mission and hundreds of advanced scientific spacecraft. The center was renamed the John F. Kennedy Space Center in late 1963 to honor the president who put America on the path to the moon.
Cape Canaveral, Florida is located east of Orlando not far from the Atlantic Ocean. For upcoming Space Shuttle launch information and other facility details, you can visit the KSC web site.
