[edit] Twins in America - River Walk San AntonioThe San Antonio River Walk is the top tourist destination in Texas and is a free park managed by the city of San Antonio that connects the many downtown shops, restaurants, hotels of downtown San Antonio via a series of man-made walkways and aqueducts that traverse on the historic San Antonio River. While the San Antonio River itself is timeless (and much of the fauna and trees lining the River Walk are centuries old), the River Walk itself (also known as Paseo del Rio or walk of the river) dates to the 1950's. Visitors can walk the River Walk for free although you'll likely want to take a boat tour while you're there for a nominal fee. The Alamo is not on the actual River Walk but is close enough to combine the two activities. Other San Antonio attractions on or near the River Walk include the San Antonio Children's Museum, Aztec on the River and HemisFair Park. For more information and free maps and guides to the region, please visit the official River Walk web site.
